So, my computer is rebuilt. Everything works beautifully, especially World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, which is possible to play for HOURS with no issues. (Multiple graphics issues were what were messing with my computer before. It also runs cooler than ever- in fact, cool air blows out of the front of the case now.) I'm able to play the Sims2 again, though last night it threw me a "D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE" error and crashed when the nanny showed up (and after playing for about three hours). Supposedly, this means my DirectX needs fixing, so I downloaded the latest one for my system and reinstalled it. I guess I'll find out later if it fixes the problem. (Weirdest of all, that an old program like The Sims 2 should throw this error, but Cataclysm, which I can run easily on very high graphics settings for six hours straight has no issues- I think it's a Sims 2 specific issue.)

ANYWAY. What this means is I have a small Eighties ISBI update, since I wanted to play a family that didn't require as much thinking. When we left off last time, Jenny Eighties met and married Luiz Campbell and had a set of twins named Jack and Diane. She's working on her LTW of becoming a celebrity chef, which means she has to work menial jobs in restaurants.

We start with Jenny making breakfast for the rest of the family before she heads off to work. She's actually not a terrible mother.

And that's all for part three- sorry for the awkward ending. Tune in next time to see if Luiz continues to ignore his kids, if his kids manage to off themselves by their own stupidity, and if Jenny can hold it all together!

"Do Nain" by Miss Pooja. Now, this isn't my favorite song of all time (see the first entry of this meme for that), but I could NOT STOP listening to this song in March 2010 when I discovered Miss Pooja.

And that's it! I am done with this meme! Hooray! Now, let's hope I can get back to posting actual Sims-related stuff again soon. (And that's likely to happen once I can get some play time in again- I have enough pics for half-updates on three different legacies. Curse my short attention span.)

"Poli High" by Harry Nilsson, from The Point. This is the first record album I ever owned, it was bought for me when I was extremely tiny by either my mother or my aunt. It came out the year I was born, so it's highly likely they bought it for me while I was an infant! So, I've pretty much heard the record my whole life. The record is interesting in that it's Harry Nilsson telling the story of the pointless Oblio and his dog Arrow, interspersed with him performing all the musical numbers. I literally know the whole album backwards and forwards. My favorite song from the album is actually "Are You Sleeping?", but I love the way the harmonies work on "Poli High". This album is my comfort music. I still have my original record (which is in sad shape), a newer almost pristine copy of the record, and the special edition CD version of the record.

I actually do not like the animated movie version of The Point. It's not the same without Nilsson telling me the story and doing the voices. I do however like the Blackalicious song "Blazing Arrow" that samples from "Me and My Arrow". I was surprised that no one had sampled from Nilsson before- especially from the Point, where everything flows from one song to the next with very few actual breaks, much like good hip hop.

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh

"Moskau" by Dschingis Khan. Why, yes, this song *was* a Eurovision Song Contest entry. They always have the cheesiest songs for that, which is why it fascinates me. However, I am a big fan of Buffalax's "translations" of songs, and his mis-heard lyrics are the ones I remember. Other notable internet meme amusements include "Benny Lava", "Irrational Exuberance" and "Tunak Tunak Tun". What do you want from me, I'm a giant nerd.

Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument

"Poor Wandering One" from the Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. I *used* to be able to play this on the flute. I took years of private flute lessons as a tween and teen (and was once quite good at it), and this song was one in my exercise book that I had to play a lot. My teacher had a sense of humor though, and crossed out "One" and wrote in "Mind", since my attention had a tendency to wander. Thus, in my family, this song is known as "Poor Wandering Mind". Someday, I'll have flute lessons again, I have my flute still.

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play

"Fantaisie" by Claude-Paul Taffanel. Performed here by James Galway, my flute idol. (Not that there are a lot of flutists out there to idolize, really...) I never learned this piece, which is a shame.

Day 28 - A song that makes you feel guilty

"Londonderry Air" (aka "Danny Boy"), but only when performed on a flute. It reminds me that I shouldn't have given up playing in a fit of teenage rebellion. I feel guilty that I stopped playing- and for frivolous reasons (I didn't want to have to practice an hour a day every day, I didn't want to have to go to lessons every week, etc.). I was actually good at it, and I quit just because I was a teenager. Now that I'm an adult, I think how much money my parents paid for lessons and my flute (silver-plated, open-hole, and thus NOT a cheap one), and I feel guilty for stopping.

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

"More Than This" by Roxy Music. No brainer on this one- this is the one song that makes me turn into a pile of romantic goo, especially if my husband is anywhere in the near vicinity. Since we got married by a Justice of the Peace (ten minutes, in, out, done!), we didn't have a "first dance" or any of that jazz, but this was what it would have been if we had. Someday, for a big anniversary, we plan to have a big party/reception, and yes, this song will be The Song. (For the traditional "First dance with dad", it's also a Roxy Music song, "Avalon". My dad is solely responsible for my love of Glam.)

Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral

"No One Lives Forever" by Oingo Boingo. Though really, I'll be dead, so I don't really care what they play at my funeral. This song just seems appropriate. I'm sure someone will play something slow and tragic or something. What will I care? I'll be dead. (And hopefully cremated, so I can't come back if there's some kind of zombie outbreak.) A good friend of mine has told me he'd like "The Hell of It" from The Phantom of the Paradise to be played at his funeral, which is just sarcastic enough to be perfect for him.

"So Human" by Lady Sovereign. Yes, she sampled from the Cure, but it works for me. Plus, I can really relate to the lyrics in this song. I don't generally like to admit to being sad ever, even though I sometimes suffer from depression. (I channel sadness into anger, usually.) To admit that I get sad like anyone else does is hard, which is why I really like the chorus of this song. And I like the "Doesn't it feel much better, uh huh, when you've had a better day than yesterday" line a lot.

I've gotten some kind of horrible sick due to Daylight Savings Time throwing a monkey wrench into my sleep schedule. This happens every year, so I should not be surprised.

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry

"Celebrity Skin" by Hole. The album came out at a time when a lot of crap was happening in my life, so it became the soundtrack of my anger. I'm dismayed that Courtney Love has become a strange fake plastic creature now.

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy

"Xanadu" by Olivia Newton-John and ELO. DON'T JUDGE ME. I love Xanadu. It's a godawful terrible film riddled with continuity errors and plot holes, and it killed the movie musical for decades, but damned if I don't love that piece of cheesy disco-coated crap. And it has Gene Kelly on roller skates! How can you go wrong?

Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio

"Many Moons" by Janelle Monae. Also anything by Marina & the Diamonds, V.V. Brown, Goldfrapp, or any of the female singer/songwriters who do their own music.

Day 19 - A song from your favorite album

"Suedehead" by Morrissey from the album Bona Drag. I really love that album. This was hard to choose, because there are so many albums I love.

"Footloose" by Kenny Loggins. Now, let me state, I don't listen to the radio at home. At work at the DayJob (a comic/gaming store), the store radio is usually stuck on Jack.FM. And let me tell you, the DJ robot at Jack.FM loves Kenny Loggins. So I hear "Footloose" AT LEAST once a shift at work, usually more. For some inexplicable reason, my husband has a deep and abiding love for Kenny Loggins (and that reason has everything to do with Caddyshack) so when we are in the car, he will often torment me by playing "I'm All Right" and "Mr. Night" repeatedly. Well, he is a comedian, and thus, not a normal person.

"Into Your Arms" by the Lemonheads. See also just about any Lemondheads, Blake Babies or Juliana Hatfield song. One of my exes was obsessed with Evan Dando and Juliana Hatfield, so he played these songs endlessly during the short time we lived together. Before our horrific, messy and gut-wreching breakup, I loved these songs. After, well, NOT SO MUCH. To the point where I have a visceral rage-filled reaction to the music. And mind you, this horrific breakup was in 1996! So, it's not like it was even recent. Ugh.

On a lighter note, my husband is pretty awesome, and fortunately thinks the Lemonheads are totally lame and bogus. So it's not like I've had to hear this music since 1996. HOORAY.

"Punk Rock Girl" by the Dead Milkmen. My husband always plays this song for me, which is cute. We also joke that we will name our future daughter Minnie Pearl. I really miss the genre of awkward alternative/punk music. It was goofy and fun, and very unpretentious. See also Camper Van Beethoven's "Take the Skinheads Bowling".

"Solo Quedate En Silencio" by RBD. One, it's in Spanish, which I don't speak. Two, it's about as bubblegum pop as you can get. But, it is from the band that stars in the TV show Rebelde, which I am addicted to. I have all the DVD sets (with subtitles!), and it is pretty much a totally over the top crazypants soap opera drama. And I do mean CRAZYPANTS. But I really loved this song from the show. So much so, I actually *purchased* it on iTunes. It's pretty! And sad. And I like things that are pretty and sad.

I'm really a failure at daily updates. And yet, I used to update my personal LJ every single day! Of course, that was when I was 100% self-employed, something which hasn't been true for years now.

Anyway, song meme:
Day 11 - A song from your favorite band

"Khanada" by Duran Duran. It's the B-side of the "Careless Memories" EP, and has always been one of my favorite D2 songs. And yes, no shame at all that Duran Duran is my favorite band. Course, they are tied with Blondie, Adam and the Ants, and T.Rex. When I was an impressionable teenager, I was convinced I would have a baby girl with John Taylor or Nick Rhodes someday, and I would name her Khanada. Even though that would have made me a CRAZY PERSON. XD I can only imagine the horror on those guys faces if I'd gotten to meet them back then and tell them this insane idea. Oh, teenagers!

Day 12 - A song from a band you hate

"My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas. I actually like hip hop and R&B, but I honestly believe the music of the Black Eyed Peas celebrates complete and utter stupidity. The lyrics are *terrible*. There's so much better hip hop/dance/R&B out there. And Fergie's voice makes me want to stab myself in the ear with a knitting needle. Especially when she says "check it out!". I can't even like the BEP ironically.

Day 13 - A song that is a guilty pleasure

"Dragostea Din Tei" by O-Zone. This was so hard to choose, since I have a weakness for incredibly cheesy pop/dance music (Britney, Xtina, anything from the Eurovision Song Contest, etc.). I blame growing up when disco was huge. But hands down, people are always surprised when this comes up on my iTunes, because hello, supposed to be punk rock. But I can't help it, I genuinely love this stupid thing.

Ridiculous, my inability to do these updates every day like I am supposed to. Why, you'd think I had a life-eating job or something! The nerve of me, being employed to the point of exhaustion, when there are perfectly good memes to do.

Catch up time commences now:
Day 08- A song that you know all the words to

"The Time Warp", from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And I don't know all the words to just this song, I know ALL the words from the WHOLE MOVIE. Including dialogue. I was going to post "My Name is Mok" from Rock'n'Rule, as that is the other musical film I memorized every single bit of dialogue and lyrics to, but it's no longer on YouTube.

This is a difficult pick, because I know all the words to a really ridiculous number of songs. I've always been a bit obsessed with lyrics.

Day 09- A song you can dance to

Let's be honest, I can dance to almost anything (and have!), especially if it has a good beat, so I picked one of my favorite songs to dance to. "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order.

Day 10- A song that makes you fall asleep

"Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" by She & Him. I generally like sleeping with no noise (just a cat purring in my ear!), but my husband will sometimes have phases of listening to music to fall asleep. He was on a big She & Him kick, so this whole album was our on-repeat sleep music for a while. So now I get sleepy when I hear this song!

Yes, Meat Loaf. Yes, Paradise by the Dashboard Light. I was a giant Rocky Horror nerd/floorshow cast member from the time I was 15 onwards. And, amazingly enough, the first ever live concert I went to was to see Meat Loaf when I was 18. (This was in 1989! Yes, I am very old.) Pretty much every one of my friends from the Rocky Horror cast went to see this show at a local rock club. And Meat Loaf blew the damn doors off the place. He was one hell of a showman! It was a pretty awesome concert, all told. So, this song always reminds me of my first real concert/live show as a "grown up".

Amusingly enough, whenever I later went to karaoke with female friends, I somehow always got stuck singing the Meat Loaf part when we did this song since they all wanted to do the girl part. See also: Summer Lovin' from Grease, where I always got stuck doing the John Travolta part. No, I do not have a particularly deep voice. XD (I was Columbia in Rocky Horror cast because I was small and squeaky; I just had really girly friends I guess!)

Pleasant Valley Sunday by the Monkees. I went through a big 1960's phase for a while when I was a teenager, doing my best to dress like Edie Sedgwick every day (went over great at my school, lemme tell ya), listening to 60's music, obsessing over Andy Warhol, mod fashion and pop art. (I was all about the mod sixties, not the hippie sixties...) My family lived in a suburb that had been built in the early 1960's and I'd listen to this song when I was stuck in my room on weekends or during the summer. So, it always is associated with my parents' old house in my mind and the particular way that afternoon light came into the upstairs bedrooms.

So, my limping along computer finally got Very Angry and made Horrible Noises of Doom, meaning I missed THREE DAYS of posting on this here meme. So, now, three days of posting get combined into one post! Hurray! (And here's hoping my computer can be repaired soon- the new parts are here, I just am waiting on my friend to have time to come help rebuild it.)

Okay, DAY 03- A song that makes you happy:

Katamari on the Rock, from the original Katamari Damacy soundtrack. I will listen to the Katamari soundtrack when grinding in WoW or when cleaning house- it is so upbeat and cheerful, it keeps me moving. ^_^

DAY 04- A song that makes you sad:

I Can't Be With You by the Cranberries. Of course, now that I am well and solidly happily married, it doesn't sting as much as it did in my twenties. But I still listen to it when I'm having a bad or sad day. (My husband is always worried when he hears me listening to the Cranberries, because it pretty much means I'm upset about something!) Such good lyrics.

DAY 05- A song that reminds you of someone:

Christine by Siouxsie & the Banshees. This will always remind me of my closest friend of my late teens early twenties (yes, named Christine). We drifted apart over the years, but found each other again recently through LJ of all things. The "disintegrating" line has proven unfortunately prophetic, but we all felt like we were disintegrating back when we were young in the late 1980's-early 1990's.

Hm, that ended up being two songs that make me sad. Clearly, I need to listen to more Katamari!

This choice was really difficult, as there really are a lot of songs I can't stand- usually it comes down to having really stupid lyrics, or else being of the genre that I call "70's Country Butt Rock", which just sets my teeth on edge. I also hate poorly done sampling. So currently, my least favorite song ever is something that combines THREE THINGS IN ONE!

Kid Rock's "All Summer Long":

Now I've caught the 30-Day-Music-Meme bug, so I am starting this meme up. Let's see if I can remember to post a song a day for 30 days! It will be amazing if I can manage this feat.

This was easy, because my favorite song has been my favorite song since I was 13-14 years old, though the first version I heard was a cover by Duran Duran.

Since I can't play Sims until my computer is fixed (Woe!), that means I am recklessly trawling my Sims Flist for my fix. And that means I see A Lot Of Memes. I am weak, WEAK I SAY, against memes, so now you all have to suffer through this one.

(I'd do the 30 days of music meme, but I am going out of town for a comic convention tomorrow, and won't be posting much till I get back... but I have my eye on that one!)

This is shameless stolen from everyone! Let's see how much my iTunes wants to embarrass me or conversely, how ancient/dorky I am... (I honestly have no shame when it comes to songs I like. Also, I'm skipping all the J-pop/K-pop/Bollywood music I have on here...)

Step 1: Put your iPod/iTunes on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song or artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
