Goreys: Gone!
Oct. 17th, 2009 05:01 pmIt's true, the Massive Hard Drive Meltdown means I have lost ALL my Sims. All the Goreys, all the Rosales-Varmas, every house I ever made myself (the house from My Neighbor Totoro!), everything is gone. The old hard drive can't even keep enough of a flicker of life in it to get a decent image off of it.
I still have some Gorey snapshots left uploaded to my Photobucket account, so I guess I'll make one or two last few posts with what's left there. Then, they'll be gone. I guess I failed that Legacy Challenge pretty badly, only getting to Generation Three before they all went to the giant Sim-bin in the sky.
I am planning to reinstall the game as soon as I can. I'm trying to look at it as an opportunity to start over fresh, be organized from the very beginning with my CC, all that fun stuff. I know there will be some things I can't find again, but hopefully I can track them down somewhere. (And if not, is it really so bad? There's so much beautiful CC out there to choose from.) I'm making a list right now of the default replacements I want to put in for sure, and rebuilding my bookmarks list of my favorite CC sites. I might try doing that clean neighborhood template thing, even, because I want to see my face defaults and skins start right from the beginning. I'm getting all my related helper programs ready now too- the Compressorizer, the Wardrobe Wrangler, CleanInstaller, etc. So, I guess it's not the end of the world. I'm doing okay with it.
I don't know if I will start the Goreys over again, but I might. We shall see. If I did, I might start it as a different branch of the family, since it would be weird to try to recreate Friedrich.
Oh, and when I bought my new replacement hard drive, I also bought a brand new external hard drive. Can you say weekly backups? I knew you could! We will never again have the burning.

Date: 2009-10-18 05:50 pm (UTC)I'd start again with distant cousins of the Goreys. You might be able to recreate the looks of the first Sim, but it'll irritate you when things start happening differently for him.
